The application of a unique registration mark to the product packaging is the responsibility of the manufacturer. Moreover, it does not generate this number itself, but through the product marking server "Honest Sign" (after a request and payment of 50 kopecks per mark). To protect the codes from counterfeiting by unscrupulous manufacturers, a so-called (in the language of professionals) cryptotail is generated at the end of each code, consisting of several control digits and a commercial property owners database special font. The government has not yet mentioned this terminology in its regulations, but it appears on the CRPT website.
Imported goods must be labeled by the importers themselves before filling out declarations. If the products come from countries that are part of the EAEU, namely Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, then the labeling is applied before the goods enter Russian territory. You can get a lot of identification marks for labeling goods at once, with a reserve, and then use them as needed.
Who is responsible for marking the product?
In fact, sellers themselves do not need to have special equipment for applying markings. However, practice shows that it will still have to be purchased. Firstly, for applying markings to the remains, because their sale (and even movement from one storage location to another) will be prohibited. You can't throw away the products.
The second reason is that after purchasing an item, the buyer has the right to return it (according to the law "On the Protection of Consumer Rights") and it is not a fact that he will keep the marking intact (the law does not stipulate this point in any way). What should the seller do, because it is impossible to leave the item without marking? Re-apply to the CRPT for the code, pay for it (1 piece - 50 kopecks) and print out a label, where the new two-dimensional DataMatrix code will be indicated. When filling in the column "Reason for putting into circulation" among other standard ones ("Production", "Import"), you should select the "Re-marking" item.
A few words about the length of crypto tails. For cigarettes, this is a combination of only four digits, but for medicines, it was originally intended to use a code of 92 characters. Such bulky symbols would not fit on small packages for medicines. Manufacturers would have to re-equip production in order to produce other packaging and print the required code on it. The Ministry of Food Trade took this into account and left 44 characters in the crypto tail for medicines.
