In this way, it is possible to calculate the degree of increase in the importance of the tasks performed by an employee when this employee grows by 1–2 points in the grade rating. As a result, the manager will understand how easy (or, conversely, difficult) it will be for the employee to cope with new responsibilities.

His total initial score is 30 points. This allows us to see him as an excellent specialist and allows us to move him up two steps on the career ladder at once - to the position of head of the sales department.
Below is the position of senior salesperson, the indicator of this position is 35 points (i.e. the growth would be slightly more than 15%). In the case of promotion to department manager (46 points), the specialist will “grow” immediately by almost 50%.
Based on this, we can conclude that it will be very difficult for an ordinary salesperson to cope with the role of a manager.
Of course, we have given an explanation of the method in a very simplified form. Full implementation of Hay's concept requires the use of special substitution tables. But even with them, the results will not show their effectiveness in all cases. For example, companies such as Mercer and Watson Wyatt use other grading methods in their work. To create an effectively working system, it is necessary to study all these methods, and then choose the most appropriate one.
