The impacts of the new coronavirus have been felt beyond healthcare centers, as the economic scenario has also been a topic of discussion about the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to focusing on revenue, companies have had to undergo changes overnight, with consequences for organizational culture and changes in the mindset that separated online from offline.
Part of these adaptations involved implementing a collaboration platform for remote work , contributing to task management and communication between employees. Experts already recognize that the effects of these changes will impact how companies adapt to digital transformation and that only those who know how to adapt their businesses will survive the crisis.
To understand, in practice, how organizations are reacting to this scenario, Bitrix 24 conducted a survey at the end of March with its users around the world. The objective was to understand the dynamics of adaptation to remote work, how the coronavirus has impacted employees' lives, among other factors.

Pandemic favors the increase in remote work in the world
The survey conducted worldwide by Bitrix24 assessed how companies are adapting to the coronavirus pandemic. The survey was answered by new and existing users, who presented their opinions on the current situation and prospects for the future of companies. This survey is associated with the efforts of the #StaySafe movement , promoted by the platform.
In early March, Bitrix24 lifted the user limit for all accounts, an initiative that will continue as long as social restrictions are recommended as a contingency measure against Covid-19. In Italy, for example, 83% of respondents reported that their lives were affected by the coronavirus, while the global average is 41%.
The number of Bitrix24 users increased in the third week of March, when several countries imposed health measures for their employees. During this period, there was a 25% to 40% increase in new registrations, with differences from one country to another.
To give you an idea, the weekly growth of new subscribers to the platform increased by 219% in Germany. This number reveals a very fast adaptation of the German market. There, the lockdown was decreed on March 22 and, since then, the majority of citizens have been complying. Right behind, Poland recorded twice as many new registrations in one week; the increase may be associated with the contingency measures that began on March 13 .
In Spain and Italy, countries that were slow to define social isolation rules, the increase in new registrations was “only” 48%. The assessment is that differences in economic structure and attitudes towards home office impact the speed and effectiveness of implementing remote work.
The good news is that the scenario points to changes even after the Covid-19 outbreak passes.
Changes in companies after the pandemic
Only a fraction of organizations believe they will return to operating as they did before the pandemic. Globally, 48% of all respondents do not plan major changes. Germany stands out, with 56% of respondents not foreseeing significant organizational changes, followed by Brazil (48%), Spain (40%) and Poland (37%).
On the other hand, there are companies that consider implementing remote work as a reality. When asked if 100% of employees could work from home, 42% of all respondents said yes. The highest number of supporters of the idea is registered in Spain (66%), while the average, of 41% to 46%, was identified in countries such as Brazil, Germany, Poland and Italy.
Bitrix24 notes that the results may be biased by self-selection, as companies using the platform are much more likely to be from the technology sector and have extensive experience with remote collaboration, even before COVID-19.
