YouTube Music will add one of TikTok's best features to its app

YouTube Music is testing a new way to help you find something to listen to. It's called Samples, which is taking over a new tab in the YouTube Music app. Here's how it works.


In recent years, virtually every platform worthy of the name has taken inspiration from TikTok's signature vertical video feed and created its own version. YouTube introduced Shorts, which have already surpassed 2 billion users, and Instagram also added Reels, the short, full-screen, scrollable videos that can be viewed.

The " continuous stream of short-form video segments " is powered by " the world's largest catalog of music videos ," YouTube proudly boasts. The Samples stream promises to "explore the depths and breadth of the YouTube Music library so there's always something new to listen to ."

If you like a song, you can click the “Like” button on the side or the thumbnail in the bottom corner to view the album it’s on . The feed also includes other options, including quickly adding the song to a playlist, creating a short film from the song, sharing the song with others, and more.

Spotify , for its part, recently underwent a major redesign that also uses this feature , but on a whole new level. The app offers automatic preview cards for recommended content in its music, podcast, and audiobook streams.

The Samples tab is rolling out globally in the YouTube Music app starting today , so if it's not available in your area yet, you'll have to be patient, as it's often a gradual rollout.
