Vagabond Links: Climate Makes Headlines

Post by shishir.seoexpert1 »

Media / Climate – As COP26 approaches in Glasgow next November, the climate situation continues to deteriorate and publishers are (finally) making it a headline story . The Media and Climate Change Observatory reported in its August 2021 monthly report that media coverage of global warming was the highest in over a decade, with publishers developing new verticals specifically addressing climate change.

More than half of French people (53%) believe that " issues gambling data india raised by climate change " do not occupy " a sufficiently important place " in the news, according to a Viavoice survey conducted for the Assises du journalisme, in partnership with France Télévisions, France Médias Monde, le Journal du dimanche and Radio France. The ecological transition of the media would then require operational remodeling within editorial offices . To better equip journalistic teams, organizations such as the Temasek Foundation and the World Association of New Publishers are supporting editorial teams in the face of this new challenge.

Instagram Kids – While Facebook had planned to release the Instagram Kids platform for under-13s , the recent Wall Street Journal investigation has brought to the surface the psychological impact of the platform on adolescents . Adam Moserie, CEO of Instagram , announced the suspension of this launch, which does not satisfy some American senators who would like Facebook to abandon the project completely . Facebook denies WSJ claimsand is releasing the results of its survey on the well-being of adolescents. Mark Zuckerberg's company is trying to calm the outcry caused by this new scandal.

Facebook 's internal research had revealed business opportunities with young people from a very young age to adapt to new screen consumption, which now begins on average at the age of 6. Indeed, children and pre-teens use social networks, but the acquisition rate of these young people on Facebook compared to its competitors TikTok and Snapchat is notably low . The objective of platforms intended for children such as Messenger Kids , YouTube Kids and supposedly Instagram Kids , would therefore be to create safer spaces for the younger generations, but above all to recruit them from a very young age in the hope that they will continue to use the platform over time.

Russia vs. YouTube – YouTube removed Russia Today ’s German-language channels for spreading Covid-related disinformation . The Russian government responded by saying that YouTube had violated Russian laws on the dissemination of information . The communications authority Roskomnadzor has asked to lift the removal of the channels ,under threat of suspending the platform in the country , following the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, speaking of an " informational Barbarossa " and an " unprecedented act of information aggression on the part of YouTube",which would also be supported by the German authorities.

This threat is in line with Russian offensives in recent months against GAFA , including during the Russian legislative elections. Moscow has indeed increased pressure on foreign technology companies as part of a long-term campaign aimed at asserting greater sovereignty over its segment of the internet, in particular by requiring companies to store Russians' personal data on its territory. Russia Today is not the first media outlet to have YouTube 's terms of use applied to it . Sky News Australia, oneTalk and the One America News Network had also had their accounts temporarily suspended for disinformation reasons in the past year .
