Goodbye to unlimited electricity consumption

How the new version of Section 14a EnWG could fundamentally change our habits
After a long and intensive week at work, there is finally time at the weekend for everything that has been left undone. After the long Saturday breakfast, the dishes and pots from the night before find their way into the dishwasher. A quick look, it is full enough and, voila, the machine is humming away. Thankfully, the washing machine takes care of the mountain of laundry - so put the clothes in, select the wash cycle and start. Now we just need to put the chairs up quickly so that the vacuum robot can do a good job and, with the first pleasant feeling of work done, we can start putting on the slowly simmering tomato sauce.

Electricity is available whenever we need it. People try to save electricity here and there, but the fact that it is available in principle has been a matter of course for many decades and something we rarely or never think about. Nevertheless, electricity is becoming more expensive. Also and above all because we have never had to think about it before. With the new version of Section 14a EnWG, which comes into force on January 1, 2023, this could change quickly. In our blog post, we summarize the content of the paragraph.

background
As explained in our blog post, the federal government has launched a nepal consumer email list series of regulatory measures and adjustments with the adoption of the Easter package. Part of this package was also the new version of Section 14a EnWG on the network-oriented control of controllable consumption devices and controllable grid connections. Since the electricity grid has become increasingly complex as a result of the energy transition and the associated flexibilization of generation and consumption, grid operators should now be given the opportunity to influence the consumption of controllable consumption devices.

What exactly does Section 14a EnWG contain?
The main part of the innovation concerns the determination authority of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA). The BNetzA can, through a determination, oblige network operators and network customers to conclude agreements on the network-oriented control of controllable consumption devices or network connections with controllable consumption devices (controllable network connections) in return for network fee reductions. In this way, network operators are given the opportunity to control controllable consumption devices or controllable network connections in a way that benefits the network. In return, network customers receive a reduction in network fees.
