As Lisa Pearce , who is responsible for hydrogen subsidies at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, pointed out, London revised its hydrogen strategy in December last year. The ambitions are 1 GW by 2025, then 10 GW by 2030. They are stronger than those shown by France as part of its review of its national strategy.
The speaker then returned to the first round of grants ( HAR 1: Hydrogen Allocation Round), covering 11 projects and representing the equivalent of 125 MW. The investment amounts to £90 million from the Hydrogen Net Zero Fund, knowing that £413 million will be mobilised privately, with 760 jobs. Among the projects to be signed in the spring and launched in 2025, we note the presence of EDF for the Tees Green Hydrogen offshore wind project .
The first scaled projects in the world
England believes these are the world's first large-scale hydrogen production projects. The eligibility criterion is economic viability. The following rounds are already planned: HAR 2 for 865 MW (with electrolysis, but also pyrolysis and plasmolysis from gas), HAR 3 and HAR 4 for 750 MW and HAR 5 for unspecified capacities, the agenda for the period 2025 to 2027.
