7 steps to developing a web design

Post by mostakimvip06 »

Web design is a variant of graphic design that involves certain requirements. It is not only about getting the message, language and use of colours right, but also about how it is applied on the web: thinking about usability for the user, the hierarchical organisation of information, the adaptation of the design to the screens of different devices, etc. This means that for a good web design we need large doses of creativity, but technical knowledge and a working method are also essential. In this article we are going to explain our method, the process we follow until we have our new web design ready (For more information on the concept of web design, visit our blog article -> What is web design? ) .

Understanding the client's preferences: the first thing we should do is listen to our client. Let him explain to us what he wants to achieve with the website, what audience he wants to target, how he imagines the design of his website, etc. Sometimes the client may give us insufficient or contradictory information, and we must insist that everything is clear from the start so as not to waste hours on changes. And sometimes it happens that what the client wants does not seem right to us. In that case, do we apply the rule "the customer is always right"? We leave this up to each one of us, but in any case we believe that the most sensible thing is to always give our professional opinion to the client, even if we disagree with him, and wait for him to listen to our expert opinion. But if in the end the client is stubborn, we can finally do what he asks, with the peace of mind of having warned him beforehand.

Content analysis: based on the material provided by the client and the material they ask us to generate, we must get an idea of the material we will have available for the website. Taking into account the sections it will have, the volume and format lebanon whatsapp data of images, texts, videos and other elements we will have, will help us to project a web design that adapts well to our material. Because a common mistake some designers make is to create very nice pages with full-screen photography, for a website where the client will provide us with images that cannot be displayed on a full screen, for example.

Market analysis: observe what direct and indirect competitor companies are doing. The colors, structures, graphic languages, functionalities and web programming they use. From this information and the briefing that the client has given us, we will determine if we are going to do something in line with the sector, something with things in common with the sector but with differentiating facts, or go for something totally groundbreaking with the rest of the competitors. In general, the best way is to take the middle path (for example, if we are going to make a website for a dentist, making it with a black background would be very groundbreaking, but perhaps not the most appropriate), but this is not always the case.

Do we have a logo? This is a very important question. The logo is the basis of the corporate identity, and its presence on the web must be prominent, and its combination with the rest of the elements of the web, harmonious. If the logo has already been given to us by the client, the most advisable thing is to propose a web design taking that logo as a starting point: its colors, fonts, effects, iconographic elements, etc. If we observe that the logo is outdated or that it does not correspond to the message that the brand wants to convey, the best and most honest thing is to propose to the client a change in its logo. Although for many designers the best situation is when it is a newly created company and we can start from scratch, also by creating the logo.

A language for the web: the next step is to choose the essential language elements such as the typeface we are going to use (it is generally advisable to use one typeface or a family of them), the iconographies we are going to create, the colours to use, etc. These elements will give body and coherence to the website.

Visual hierarchies and information architecture: we must take into account the importance of each of the contents and the predominance of some over others in the web design. This is essentially due to two reasons: to ensure that the user, when landing on the website, follows the path that interests us the most (that goes through our funnel), and for our friend SEO, being able to determine the very important h1, h2, h3...

Visual/functional balance: these are two spheres that often have their frictions, and sometimes incompatibilities. What is beautiful is not always functional, and what is functional is not always beautiful. We recommend web designs that do not cross certain red lines: SEO or web positioning and responsive web design. As long as the web design respects the optimization of these two elements, from here you can give free rein to creativity. For example, a type of design that is very visually attractive but bad for SEO is Parallax, as we already explained in another article.
These are, broadly speaking, the steps and relevant elements of the process of creating a web design , as we do at La Teva Web. We hope that you have found the article interesting. If you want, you can check out our portfolio of web pages and see if we live up to our hype ;)
