Important trend

Post by Bappy11 »

The central theme of Wired Magazine of March 2007 was 'Snack Culture'. This theme made clear how - thanks to the digitalization of the world - people are increasingly dependent on bite-sized chunks of information. The makers of the 'Snack Culture' edition could not have foreseen at the time how sharp their analysis of our contemporary culture would be.

“Music, television, games, movies, fashion: we now devour our pop culture the same way we enjoy candy and chips – in conveniently packaged bite-size nuggets made to be munched easily with increased frequency and maximum speed. This is snack culture – and boy, is it tasty (not to mention addictive).” This excerpt is from the March 2007 Wired Magazine opening article “ Minifesto for a New Age .”

In December 2007, the website Trendwatching.com declared 'Snack Culture' one of the 8 most important consumer trends for the year 2008 : “SNACK CULTURE represents the 'transient sphere' on steroids, catering to consumers' peru phone number list insatiable craving for instant gratification. SNACK CULTURE thus embodies the phenomenon of products, services and experiences becoming more temporary and transient; products that are being deconstructed in easier to digest, easier to afford bits, making it possible to collect even more experiences, as often as possible, in an even shorter timeframe.”

The makers of the 'Snack Culture' edition could not have foreseen how sharp their analysis of our contemporary culture would be. The very first iPhone had been presented a few months before the article was written, on 9 January 2007 at Macworld to be precise, but it was not until half a year later that the iPhone could be purchased, namely on 29 June 2007. The Apple App Store did not even exist that year. It was only opened on 10 July 2008. Only Steve Jobs had a clear picture of the impact this revolutionary device in combination with the underlying (commercial) platform would have!
