Alms from Bern are the wrong way

Post by asimj1 »

I made myself unpopular more than ten years ago when I ran the music station Viva Swizz together with Suzanne Speich. When asked whether we wanted concession money, our answer was: private is private! If you are an entrepreneur planning a private radio or television station, you either have to have a business plan that makes this possible, or not.

The fact that the SRG is redistributing cambodia rcs data money from German-speaking Switzerland to French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino is right and - if more synergies were used - would be even more effective. But in the private sector, handouts from Bern are the wrong approach. With modern technology, television can be made extremely cheaply. A studio that cost ten million 20 years ago can now be had for well under two million. Beta cameras once cost 70,000 francs and more, HD cameras now cost a tenth of that.

Private is private - and it is not the state's job to transfer millions to the broadcasters - which often belong to (still) rich Swiss publishers. Current websites with videos can replace those broadcasters that cannot make ends meet. And when you look at some of the broadcasters that are funded by concession money, you have to ask yourself whether there is a need for the many formats that have nothing to do with the region. Cooking, lifestyle, exotic talks - far away from the region! Private is private. I'll stick to that. Like back when I was still doing Viva-Swizz. And I got by very well without state aid.
