Philip Kotler was born in Chicago, United States in 1931. He is a marketing specialist, economist, writer, mathematician and professor.

He earned his master's degree from the University of Chicago and his PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He began his career as a professor at the Kellogg School of Management in 1962, but in 1988 he became the distinguished professor of International Marketing at Northwestern University, one of the world's leading business schools.

By 1967, Kotler published what is now considered “the marketing bible”, his book called “Marketing Management: Analysis, Planning and Control”.
