Although women represent half of the people in the world who use technology and digital marketing , and there are more and more women in executive positions today, the gap has not been closed in any case, as women's participation in the workforce is still underrepresented at all levels. Therefore, today we will tell you a little more about the role of women in Technology and Digital Marketing.
The Data
A study of 4,200 global companies shows that only 15% of directors are women. In the US, 16.4% of directors are women, while in Canada this number is around 19%. In Latin America, our region, these numbers become more dramatic, while in Colombia 11% of directors are women, in Chile and Brazil they do not exceed 6%, while in Peru the percentage of women in technology barely reaches 1%.
In Peru, out of 150 companies taken as a sample, the most ecuador number dataset positions filled by women are marketing and social networks (27%), public relations and communications (18%) and account management (14%), while the more technical and analytical roles continue to be predominantly filled by men.
The reality
While it is true that in our country the gender gap is most evident for women who start a family since there are not many companies willing to invest in an employee who is a mother with all her needs, the 2019 Ranking Park report in which 194 private Peruvian organizations participated, companies that have more women in leadership positions are more competitive than those that do not.
There are also women who change stereotypes and break the “Glass Ceiling” by changing their way of being and acting. In many cases, it is they who, in the corporate world, become “role models” for other women; in fact, they are the ones who show that being in a management position does indeed involve a great challenge, but it is possible to advance thanks to their own decisions.
Equality = Growth
The principle of female empowerment in senior management is not about giving greater value to one gender or another, but rather about finding a way for them to complement each other in an equitable environment where the best talent occupies each position.
According to the UN Global Compact, an initiative on the subject led by the United Nations, these are the seven principles for the empowerment of women:
Promote equality between women and men from management at the highest level.
Treat all men and women equally at work, respect and defend human rights and eliminate discrimination.
Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all workers.
Promote the education, training and professional development of women.
Carry out business development, supply chain and marketing practices in favor of women's empowerment.
Promote equality through community and advocacy initiatives.
Evaluate and disseminate progress made towards equality.
