Oppenheim Architecture and Studio Arthur Casas created this hotel in Rio de Janeiro so that guests can gaze out over the famous Copacabana beach while soaking in a rooftop pool.
Hotel Emiliano by Oppenheim Arquitetura colombia number dataset Architecture and Studio Arthur Casas’ goal for the Emiliano Hotel was to create an “oasis of tranquil luxury within the vibrant energy” of the surrounding Copacabana neighborhood and the lively promenade it faces, which is home to copious restaurants, bars, and nightclubs.
To make the most of the beach views while maintaining guests’ privacy, the team covered the front of the building with white shutters that are perforated with slat-shaped holes.
When opened fully, the hinged screens reveal the balconies and large windows of the suites behind, while closing the panels creates a homogeneous front that provides shade from the strong Brazilian sun. “Attempting to create a neutral presence on the architecturally cacophonous boulevard, the façade is covered in operable screens that protect from the tropical sun, allowing for personalized modulation of space, climate and privacy,” said Oppenheim Architecture.
