The United States, belonging to the “Commercial-Public” cluster, has not been a full democracy since 2016 but an imperfect democracy, with the country's democracy index having declined from 8.22 in 2006 to 7.96 in 2019. Countries with robust public media systems have maintained solid positions in the EIU ranking.
