TangoDown and the World Web Wars

If it had only been a busy Thursday night, the people who dubbed this the “World Web Wars” on Twitter would have been a bit premature. While it does seem like it was a very large group of people spread across the world, a lot of momentum had been built up by the fuss surrounding the US legislative proposals. And a real war against online censorship is not fought in a day.

A few days later, however, we can now speak of a small revolution. belarus phone number list In Brazil, more than 100 government sites have been attacked, as well as local websites of companies such as Visa, MasterCard and Universal. And the first reports from Poland are also trickling in. On Twitter, each attack is enthusiastically announced with a “Tango Down!” message.

What remains difficult with this digital revolution is the overview. How many Anons are there? How big is the support really? How many sites have been attacked? And how far will this go? We can only guess. But what is clear in the meantime is that online protests are not going to disappear, even now that PIPA & SOPA seem to be off the table.
