Optimize existing content to increase SEO lead generation

Competitive analysis is always useful when it comes to SEO lead generation. If your competitors are doing a poor job, you can rank higher than them in the SERP.

Once you have chosen a keyword, run a Google search and open the first 10 search results. Evaluate them for content as well as SEO. What could they do better? What SEO attributes does the content lack?

Identify gaps you can fill to create higher quality content on these topics that has high potential to rank high in search results.

Your page's URL is one of the first signals Google sees when evaluating your content. If your URL contains your main keyword, it has a better chance of ranking.

6. Use your target keyword in the title of your content page to better attract SEO leads
You should also include your main keyword in the title or name of your content. We'll use the same Hello Bar example as above:

You'll notice that the keyword, social media strategy, has been placed at the beginning of the title. This is intentional. You want your keyword to appear as early in the title as possible.

This not only tells search engines what your content is about, but it also tells readers. If people notice certain keywords in the title, they will be confident that the content is what they are looking for and matches their intent.

Make sure you also add a meta title for all your blog posts and put your main keywords in there. This is great for SEO lead generation as it will get more readers to click on your SERP results and read your content.

7. Pay attention to the length of the title.
If your title is too long, people won't be able to see it all in the SERP. It will be truncated due to the settings Google has made to their listings.

See the ellipsis at the end of the search result title? This means the title was too long to display.

This is also a shame because the most important information is likely to be at the end of the headline.

Avoid this mistake and keep your titles short and catchy. The length of the title should not exceed 60 characters - this is a rule you can follow.

8. Take your time to create a compelling meta description
If you don’t add a meta description, Google will do it for you — and you probably won’t like the results. As you can see from the SERP example above, “Daily Mail” didn’t include a meta description, so Google used a confusing series of snippets of text.

Create a compelling meta description that will convince people to click. Google doesn't consider these descriptions as ranking signals, but they can influence whether consumers want to read your content.

It goes without saying that you should add your main keyword to the meta description for better SEO lead generation. Place it towards the beginning of the meta description rather than the end.

Also, make sure your meta description is not too long. Less than 160 characters is a simple rule you can follow.

Finally, make your meta descriptions compelling enough to get readers to click on your SERP listing and view your content. You can ask them a question or mention a problem they are facing, and then offer your content as an answer or solution.

9. Don't forget to use your target keyword in your content
If you read the article I linked to earlier, you'll notice something important. The key word, social media strategy, appears in the first paragraph of the text.

This is important because it shows Google that your content is seriously dedicated to the keyword in question.

You should also use your primary keyword in the first H2, several subheadings, and throughout the content. Keep your keyword density at 1% or more, but avoid keyword stuffing for effective SEO lead generation.

10. Use related keywords in your article to get more SEO traffic
Remember those secondary and tertiary keywords we talked about earlier? Use them more often in your article to help Google better understand the content.

You can find related keywords through Google Search Console and Ubersuggest. These are search queries that are often related to the content in question.
