When the New Media Handbook came out a few weeks ago, it triggered my curiosity. I have a lot of experience with new media myself and help clients with less experience who are still searching. Could this book help my clients on their way? What exactly would it be about? Before I received the book, I already asked myself: What would I leave out? Would such a book be worth it? I have recently read the book extensively and I would like to tell you my personal opinion.
Tom and Piet Bakker, the authors of the Handbook New Media, both have a estonia phone number list background as journalist and teacher. You can tell from everything. The gentlemen know what they are talking about, work thoroughly and explain everything clearly. The book is written for a specific target group: for people who work professionally with communication and information. Think, for example, of a journalist who is not yet completely at home in the world of new media.ould give my review copy of the book as a gift. My friends are either already familiar with this subject matter, or would let the book gather dust on the shelf because they find it too technical. All in all, the Handboek Nieuwe Media is thoroughly written. It is fluently written and contains a lot of good information. The weak point is that the book has become 'neither fish nor fowl'. It is too much of a list of technical functionalities to inspire the layman, while more experienced people will already know almost everything the book discusses (or can find it online themselves).
This makes the New Media Handbook a typical old-fashioned handbook. About ten or fifteen years ago, these kinds of books were useful. But in the current era, other tools are needed. Experienced users have long since learned how to find the information from the book online for free. And the people who still can't do that? You have to help them on a different level. The extensive overview of functionalities won't help this group any further either.
